Earlier this summer, I was wandering around Tlaquepaque in Sedona, Arizona. It’s a cute shopping center modeled after small villages in Mexico with cobblestone streets, stucco walls and beautiful tiles and archways throughout.
I took a seat on a bench to play with the settings on my camera and noticed a garbage can across the walkway. Its yellow and blue tiles jumped out at me as a nice detail. I don’t remember for sure, but I may have been recently looking at Harry Gruyaert photos or was just looking for a fun color challenge, so I thought “wouldn’t it be nice if someone wearing yellow and blue walked by?”
Wouldn’t it be nice if someone wearing yellow and blue walked by?
In the span of 3 minutes three or four different people and groups magically walked by with that description. It was a fun little exercise, but everyone seemed to be walking a bit too far away for my nifty fifty lens. Then two people walked into my personal space decked in yellows as if they got dressed in the morning knowing they were going to be walking past me and my impromptu project!

Moral of the story? Intentionality pays off every now and then.
Absolutely Doug, intention plays a huge role in photography. Great find of these color coordinated folks with your scene. Reminds me to share the story of this photo some time, where I somehow divined a flock of sheep and the parting of clouds to come together in this full moon composition.
